We’re excited to announce that our first crowdfunding campaign for Murdered on the Fourth of July officially launches on the film funding/distribution website Seed&Spark today at 8 a.m. We have 30 days to meet our $12,000 funding goal, which will pay for about a week’s worth of filming with a small crew in Las Vegas, where we’ll be able to capture critical interviews and other essential material needed to kickstart production and position this documentary for success.
Because Murdered on the Fourth of July is a fiscally sponsored project of the International Documentary Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, that means that contributions in support of the film may be partially or fully tax-deductible as allowed by law.
However, while financial support from anyone is much appreciated, so is clicking the “Follow” button on the campaign page or just sharing the news about this campaign with family and friends. We’ve designed a thoughtful collection of unique rewards and experiences for our backers, no matter if you contribute $10 or $10,000–everything from reproduced fliers and executive producer credits to a personalized documentary filmmaking master class.
We’ve spent the last year-plus in pre-production on this documentary, doing extensive research, collecting police reports, court transcripts, and news stories, as well as gathering archival footage and photos. We’ve conducted about a dozen pre-interviews with family, friends, colleagues, law enforcement and legal experts, and we’ve already filmed several on-camera interviews. But we can’t continue production without the community coming together to support this project.
